So, we’re a Melbourne bike shop trying to make it easier and more enjoyable to buy a bike from a knowledgeable and passionate bike rider. Why? Because you then have a much better overall experience and are more likely to join us on a casual bicycle ride along the best bike paths this town has to offer. Continue reading →
Every so often we get a build up of brilliant images the world wide web has to offer that inspire us to do bigger, better things with our every day lives. Here’s what keeps us motivated. Ride more bikes!
Getting the famous chain ring tattoo on your leg is all well and good but when it’s full of sand, dirt and the disgusting black grease build up, it’s something we can all do with out. Through the winter, your chain and entire drive train gets covered in sand and road grime that dramatically reduces the life of all your gears. Keeping it clean and well lubricated is the key to adding trouble free years and kilometres to your trusty stead.
This is why we do this sort of thing here at Riding Way. Seeing the community grow and build an interest in riding bicycles is the greatest joy we know and the fact that in some small way, we are a part of this is marvellous. We were threatened by the weather man/lady that we would face a wall of water in the morning but when I was woken up by a toddler to the face, it was clear that yet again, the weather report had failed. Beautiful, clear blue skies were all I could see and so I knew we’d have a great ride. Continue reading →
I forgot to load these up through the week… On our little journey to the rained out Meadow Heights BMX Jam, I had my trusty Nikon snapping furiously. All black and white, all digital crap, and completely untouched. Thanks to Kip for driving and doing skids with me on the bonnet!
I been having way too much fun at BMX Race Tracks lately! It’s becoming a normal thing to hit the local on a Friday evening. This is from last night, the Moon poking his head up and watching my slow laps around South Eastern BMX Track. Enjoy. Send us your race track photos…
The better weather has started to show it’s beautiful face even though I just heard we’ve had the wettest September in quite some years, but it’s time to drag out your trusty stead and get it repaired and serviced. Continue reading →
A few years ago now, there was a BMX comp in the streets of Melbourne and I tagged along to shoot some photos. It was absolutely delightful to be amongst it all then and shooting some of the best street riders in the country at the time. These three images are quite possibly the favourite shots I’ve ever taken and hang proudly in my lounge room at home.
BMX Racing in Melbourne is so hot right now and after making the trip out to the Eastfield BMX Track on Sunday, I’m even more keen to get back into racing. I heard from a good friend and customer that the meet had quite a big entries list so I knew it would be an action packed day and the perfect one to introduce my daughter and nephew to the world of fast paced BMX racing. My daughter had an absolute blast and could wait to tell her mother about the day.
While we were there I snapped a few quick pictures to give you a taste. Don’t forget there’s a big race just around the corner here on Centre Rd, Oakleigh at the South Eastern BMX ‘CASH DASH’ on September 29th.
The first Tuesday of every November is the Melbourne Cup and this equates to a solid long weekend. That’s the perfect time for a BMX Road Trip and YOU’RE INVITED to join us this year! Continue reading →
I wanted to find a skatepark in Melbourne the other day and it was a bit harder than I thought it should be. So, I decided to help make it easier for you. Below is a Google map with a marker at most of the skateparks in Melbourne. You can also find this map easily by clicking the link in the above menu. Continue reading →
On Sunday September 8th, we here at Riding Way hosted a BMX Jam at Lilydale Skatepark. The weather was perfect, the turnout was solid, and the riding was dialled and with tonnes of different styles really adding to the success of the jam. I shot some photos for your enjoyment too… Check them out…
So on the weekend just past, the Wattle Festival was on which included a Vintage BMX Show. I wasn’t sure if I’d make it out there but just as it wrapped up, my family and I arrived and saw everyone packing up. There were definitely some neat bikes there. A lot of time (and no doubt money) has been poured into these bikes to make them tip top! Be sure to make it down next year kids…
A good friend and customer, Michael, took out ‘Mid School’ of the show. We helped make it happen with our eye for detail on the wheel builds. His is the GT below.
I also got to see a couple of my dream cars. The ’69 Dodge Charger would be that car. You know, the General Lee. Or, the car Dominic Toretto flips in Fast and the Furious. Fricken brilliant car and, if I drive a car again, hopefully this is the one…
It’s the law to wear a helmet when cycling in Melbourne but I don’t think that should be your reasoning behind wearing one. It’s meant to save you from a catastrophic head injury and prevent the brain damage that would follow. When riding a bike, wear a helmet.
If you choose not to, because of how silly it may look perhaps, would this be something you would invest in? Air bags for your head! haha.
